Nouns are naming words (things, people, places).
Adjectives are describing words (they describe nouns).
Together, they help us communicate clearly!
Regular plurals - add 's':
- cat → cats
- book → books
- dog → dogs
Words ending in s, sh, ch, x - add 'es':
- bus → buses
- wish → wishes
- box → boxes
Words ending in consonant + y - change y to 'ies':
- baby → babies
- city → cities
Irregular plurals:
- child → children
- man → men
- woman → women
- tooth → teeth
- mouse → mice
Adjectives come before the noun:
- English: a red car (adjective + noun)
- Norwegian: en rød bil
Common adjectives:
- Size: big, small, tall, short
- Colour: red, blue, green, yellow
- Feeling: happy, sad, angry, excited
- Opinion: good, bad, nice, beautiful
Comparing three or more - add 'est':
- tall → tallest (Emma is the tallest in the class.)
- small → smallest
- fast → fastest
Long adjectives - use 'more' and 'most':
- beautiful → more beautiful → most beautiful
- interesting → more interesting → most interesting
Irregular:
- good → better → best
- bad → worse → worst
Describe a dog using adjectives:
Comparing:
- My dog is bigger than your cat.
- She has the cutest dog in the world!
Full sentence:
"Max is a big, friendly, brown dog. He is bigger than my sister's dog, but he is not the biggest dog in our neighbourhood."
